Campfire Logistics & Fuel Math

Campfires are mobile bases. Map them like supply depots, with fuel caches, backup tinder, and relief nodes for NPC escorts. This field manual gives spacing blueprints and time-per-log math.

Section 01

Route planning heat lanes

Divide every expedition into 15-minute "heat brackets" and drop a fire kit whenever the bracket overlaps with a risk zone or climb.

  • Paint fire icons on your map before departure.
  • Build fires perpendicular to wind to minimize blowout.
  • Cache tinder bundles ahead of a blizzard.
Section 02

Fuel economy quick table

Three birch logs plus one resin chunk equal roughly 32 minutes of warmth. Hardwoods extend by another 10 minutes but weigh more. Balance per route leg.

  • Starter combo: 2 sticks + 1 birch = 8 minutes.
  • Night watch: 3 hardwood + resin = 45 minutes.
  • Portable brazier halves consumption but costs 1 copper to craft.

Camp roles and NPC assists

Assign an NPC mule to drop charcoal ahead of you. Trade routes pass by your camps, so bribing them with tea keeps fires tended.

Use the Trade Routes timetable to sync braziers with merchant arrivals.Leave signage ("Share Fuel") to earn friendship boosts.
Section 04

Reset and teardown

Extinguish with snow to reclaim partial fuel, then pack ashes for alchemy. Leaving no trace prevents map clutter and saves resources.

  • Douse once warmth >85 so you do not overcap.
  • Ash piles craft into 2 charcoal.
  • Log each teardown in your Expedition Console notes.

Supply Tip 1

Carry 3 birch logs per 60 in-game minutes.

Supply Tip 2

Pair each fire kit with one resin chunk for storm insurance.

Supply Tip 3

Keep a spare tinder pouch in companion inventory.
